Having a blog as an affiliate marketer is a great vehicle to take your success to new levels and in this post I am going to share some ways we can do this.
This is not an extensive be all and end all list of things that you can do and you're own feedback in the comments would be greatly appreciated.
Here’s what we know for sure…
Full page overly or splash page optin forms convert really well. I have had conversion rates of up to 20% using this one method with a free plugin from sumome but it has limitations unless you take the premium version unless it’s monthly or you could use this plugin which is one time low cost but this plugin only allows for you to add an email address and not first name which is disappointing, however for the price you can do a lot more than you can with sumome free version and at much lower cost that sumome premium version.
Guest posts from other people can bring in massive traffic which you can use to gain a lot of new subscribers.
Retargeting your audience is fast, simple and can drive tons of traffic to your new content and offers
Push notifications from pushcrew work really well and have multiple ways to drive traffic back to your blog which is great if doing reviews on product launches.
Slide In banners and optin forms that are either times or shown as people scroll down the page convert really well but not as well as full page splash screens.
Does that mean that you should not use them and use full page overlay optins instead?
It means we can use this additional Slide In to offer something else that will get people onto more than one list or capture people who did not take up the first offer with the full page optin.
Having an animated banner in the top right of your sidebar can work really well if it’s an offer that will generate a lot of interest, if you look on my blog my banner there is for a webinar series where I bring in top marketers to do training and demo of their products and provide a discount.
People that come to my blog buy stuff from launches
People that come to my blog appreciate discounts on launches
People that come to my blog have a specific interest that they know very well that I can be trusted to bring offers that are relevant to them.
Content upgrades are really effective to build a list, especially if you add an optin lock for people to get a PDF version, a tool like a chrome extension etc to capture the email.
Just make sure it’s relevant to your blog post content but you can also use all blog posts for generic giveaways too.
Make sure the theme that you use is clean, easy to navigate, provides a great user experience and doesn’t have too many interruptions all happening at one time.
There is nothing worse that having so many offers hitting people and interrupting them that they cannot get to your content for fighting off popups, slide ins and exit pops that jump up when you were trying to get to the scrollbar to scroll down and read more.
Exit Pops are great but ONLY if they pop up AFTER people have X’d out and not when it intent only as they often pop up just when trying to reach for the scroll bar to move down the page. That’s truly annoying, we can do better than that and there are tools we can use to do this nicely such as this low cost plugin which redirects people to any page you want on the net AFTER they have clicked the X to close the page and no just on intent which is rarely accurate anyway.
Interlinking your blog posts is great for SEO but also for keeping people on your site so that you can show them more in content offers specific to each post.
If your content is great then it also build that trust and authority which helps get more opens when you do send out some offers to make affiliate commissions
Use social and content sharing networks such as ViralContentBee to drive targeted traffic. I have seen multiple times that blog posts I create and are automatically sent to that service can generate over 1000 hits to the blog post from that ONE service.
Stealth Ads is one I haven’t tried yet to be honest and it’s intriguing enough that I bought this plugin to do just that. It will add native ads style ads to you blog which you can link out to landing pages, affiliate offers or internal link to relevant blog posts.
It’s a high converting format for the native ad companies and now with this plugin you can build your own with 100% control of what is being shown, when, where and to whom.
That’s just a few ideas on how to use your blog for traffic and to build in targeted affiliate list building that is pretty much set and forget and automated after you have set these up.
Now it's your turn…
Do you have any further suggestions or can share you're own experience on building an affiliate marketing list from your blog?
